Follow these simple steps and you will have a beautiful lawn!
First your lawn will need .5 inches of water per week
Thatch end of April
Do not seed if you have applied a pre-emergent crab grass/weed preventer
Get a soil sample, 6- 1/4 cup samples per acre at at a 4 inch depth. $ 35 at the mill. Do one more the following year after you make adjustments.
PH 7 is best, most soil sandy soil is lower, so add lime to increase the PH
Use the right fertilizer, 17-8-18-10-nitrogen, phosphorus, potash, sulfur. Do this every 4 weeks, 100/lbs per acre. Petersons has it or Federated Coops in Rush City $21/50lb/bag
Get rid of the broad leafs-use -Tri-mec, rate 2/oz/gallon/25/gal/acre. Do this one time per year, once should be sufficient if staying on this program
Core plug aerate in August with an over seed, fertilize when done
Add Potash in July, 50 lbs/acre, $18/50 lb/bag Petersons or Federated
Mow at 2 inches with irrigation, 3 inches with out. Mow every 4 days so only less than a .5 inch cut is taking place.
